Hoops for Hope Basketball Event

Breast cancer strikes 1 out of 8 women nationally, with Oregon and Washington being the two states with the highest incidence of breast cancer diagnosis................................

Hoops for Hope are basketball games centered around hope. Hope for early detection, hope for increased survival and hope for a cure.

The WLHS Men's and Women's Basketball will be hosting an all-pink "Hoops For Hope" breast cancer awareness event to be held at our home games against
Oregon City High School on Friday, January 20th. The home varsity teams will be wearing pink uniforms for the game, and players and coaches on all West Linn teams, as well as, players/coaches on the Oregon City teams and referees will be showing their support with various "shades of pink." The games will also include fun halftime events and raffles.

All proceeds raised for the event will be donated directly to Breast Friends - a local nonprofit organization devoted to meeting the survival needs of a woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The West Linn Tidings will be promoting this event and inviting breast cancer survivors, their families, basketball fans and the entire community to attend. We need you to invite your family and friends, especially if you know someone who has been touched by breast cancer, either directly or through someone they love. Please help support our players and this very worthwhile cause!

Clarification of the WLYBA Residency Policy:

The West Linn Youth Basketball Association will allow kids to play for the WLYBA's Select teams if they either reside anywhere within, or attend a public or private school located anywhere within, the West Linn-Wilsonville School District's boundaries. This is consistent with the School District's open enrollment policy which allows kids who reside anywhere within the School District to attend any school within the School District.

To keep kids from trying out in both West Linn and another city and then choosing which team to play for, the WLYBA will not allow kids to participate in multiple tryouts. Pursuant to that practice, any child who attends a Select tryout in West Linn is not eligible to attend a Select/AAU (or the equivalent) tryout in any other city (such as Wilsonville), and vice versa. This policy is posted on the WLYBA's website. The WLYBA will share its tryout lists with the Wilsonville Youth Basketball Association, and acquire the WBA's tryout lists, to help ensure that no one violates this practice.
